Custom Comfort Medtek Re-Designs The JA1885 Folding Donor Bed

When responding to incidents that require immediate, large-scale blood donations, organizations can quickly meet the needs of both blood banks and donors by using folding donor beds such as Custom Comfort Medtek’s (CCM) JA1885 model.

Designed to make the donation process as stress-free and efficient as possible, the JA1885 features an ergonomic design that limits the strain on the donor’s body. The chair’s replaceable arm pad can be used on either side of the bed and adjusted to accommodate blood draws from either arm, making the procedure easier on the phlebotomist as well.

According to National Health Service Blood and Transplant, some 8 to 10 percent of the body’s blood volume is removed during donation, which can lead to patients becoming woozy and potentially fainting. The ability to lower the upper part of the chair and/or raise the legs allows the body to counteract the affects of blood loss often related to fainting.

Major Features of the JA1885

Manufactured in the United States, the JA1885 is constructed with high-strength aluminum and vinyl strapping and weighs in at only 36 pounds. Other major features include:

  • A wide range of color options. Until recently, the JA1885 was available only with dark blue strapping and an unfinished aluminum frame.
  • A 300-pound patient weight capacity.
  • Easier storing and stacking. When folded, the JA1885 reduces to a compact 8 inches.
  • An optional wheeled dolly that allows one person to transport up to four beds.

“The advantages of the JA1885 are unparalleled – it’s convenient, portable, easy to set up, can be stacked vertically or horizontally, and is simple to clean,” said Chad Dunbar, vice president of CCM. “With an industry-leading two-year limited warranty for manufacturer defects, you can rest assured that, aside from regular cleaning and routine inspection, there is no maintenance required.”

The chair also comes with a one-year warranty on all vinyl components, attachments and options.

The JA1885 comes in a range of different frame and strapping colors at a list price of $795. The CCM portable series also includes the JA2018 stackable lounge and the JA1201-FC folding draw chair. The list prices for these models are $629 and $299 respectively, though CCM does offer discounted pricing on volume purchases.
